With the Tories having gone it alone in government we’ve seen yet more nasty, destructive cuts to the things ordinary people care about- the NHS, the welfare state, education, public services and trade union rights.

The People’s Assembly Against Austerity is calling this major national demonstration on Sunday 4th October 2015  to send a clear message to the Tory government and their conference; we demand an alternative to austerity and to policies that only benefit those at the top.

We demand that the rich should pay for the crisis and not the vast majority who had nothing to do with it.

Branches, reps, activists and Trades Union Council delegates should use this rally as an opportunity to speak to as many members as possible about resisting the attacks on their unions and communities. Organise meetings and link up with other branches.

  1. Tens of thousands marched through the streets of Manchester to protest outside the Tory Party Conference. Len Mcluskey, Unite General Sevretaty, told the rally that we were “sending a very clear message” to the government that they faced a fightback.

Dave Prentis blasted Trident saying it was wrong to prioritise a nuclear deterrent when vital services were stretched.

At a pre-rally meeting organised by the “Campaign for Trade Union Freedom” many trade union leaders lined up to speak against the Trade Union Bill currently being pushed through Parliament by the Tories the meeting concluded with the rallying call that if any Union or members comes foul of the law all trade union members should take action to support that union and/or members. The Institute of Employment Rights, which co-sponsored the meeting, has produced an excellent pamphlet which can be ordered here Protect the right to strike: kill the bill
